Curriculum Choices for 2021-2022 School Year
Well for some people the school year hasn’t ended yet but for some of us the new year is going to begin pretty soon. We usually start July 1st so we get out the first part of March. This year my 3 older kids will all be taking part in our more formal school. Lilly (4) will be doing a very abbreviated schedule, mostly learning to read and advancing in her math. What are our curriculum choices this year?
Curriculum choices for this year.
Jake: (10) CTCMath: Math
Memoria Press, Book of Birds Study: Science
Language Arts: IEW Fables, Myths and Fairy Tales Writing Lessons, Fix-it Grammar
History: Memoria Press: American History through Music Folklore and Crafts
Bible: Proverbs People
Gabe: (7) This is his first required year and he will be focusing on learning to read through IEW and their PAL program. He will also be using CTCMath and taking part in the Book of Birds Study and the history program and Bible study with Jake.
Both boys will be working through a poetry memorization course through IEW which has a tremendous impact on their ability to recall things (especially Gabe).
Each of the kids will work on art (drawing, colored pencil coloring ect) in their science and history programs. The boys are in martial Arts classes for physical education. They also participate in archery, tomahawk throwing and other traditional skills. This year they are going to be learning to weave baskets as part of their living history.
As usual there will be lots of books both read aloud and silently. Dear Dad will be responsible for many field trips (they still take them even during our off time too!).
My goal as my children age is to combine as many subjects as possible adjusting for ability and understanding. In a way this closely resembles one room schoolhouse modes of learning.
We also supplement with SchoolhouseTeachers, The Great Courses Plus, AwesomeSciTV and more! Of course we have tons of life skills and hands on learning to do.
What about you? What are you studying this year?
