Our Inconvenient Family Summer Update & Declutter

Jenny/ July 26, 2019/ Family Life

It’s summer in the Ozark foothills and for the most part it’s been super hot and humid. We’ve had more rain this year than is usual for us. I’d rather have that than drought however it has made it difficult to grow a garden????. Our tomatoes have been rotting before they ripen and our green beans are just now starting to bloom. The cucumbers are also just now putting on cucumbers so I’m not sure how they will do. All our berries did do well but strangely enough the wild berries did terribly. I guess they got too much rain!

The kids are growing like weeds and it’s a constant job to keep them fed????. Oh well, I’d rather have them healthy with great appetites than the alternative!  This week we’ve had cooler, less humid weather and we are taking full advantage of it!  I’ve been in the middle of a massive declutter but being outside is a priority in this kind of weather!

I’m continuing to work on a grocery budget and we’ve only been shopping at 2 stores. It’s working well and I don’t believe we’re spending anymore than before. It saves a ton of time for Dennis, who is THE grocery shopped!

So, a massive declutter is going on here, both inside and out. It’s not much fun and frankly it’s kind of discouraging. Kind of like when you start exercising after being sedentary for awhile????. But we are making headway!  I’ve been through the kid’s toys and organized all that, eliminated lots of my clothes and the outgrown baby clothes (tears there), junk drawers, old receipts and statements (ugh!). Now, I’m working on getting rid of extra unused appliances, furniture ECT…  Dennis is purging our shop building and the outside stuff also. It’s unbelievable what we’ve pitched, given away and sold this week!  Yikes!  How do we get so much STUFF?

I’m wanting all this done before the end of summer and our new school year starts. I think it will make our life sooooo much easier!

How’s your summer going?

Oh yes, I just bought a bread machine so the kids can have homemade bread each day with 5 minutes of work from me. I can’t say exactly how happy that makes me but it is so nice!!
