"Character Trails" Review

Jenny/ May 28, 2019/ Homeschool Reviews

One of my objectives as a homeschooling parent is to teach our children Godly character traits.  And quite honestly, sometimes that is just plain hard to do!  So, I was very excited to review “Character Trails” by Character Concepts.  This is a character building book written by Marilyn Boyer designed especially to promote and teach Godly character to our children!

First of all, I loved that this book is hardback!  I’m a sucker for hardback books because this is a book I will be reading over and over to my kids and I want it to be durable.  Its set up is easy to use.  Each section has a character trait and includes a Bible verse (or two) about it and a definition of that is easy for kids to understand.  Then there are 3 chapter in each section which include a Bible story displaying that trait, a historical story and a modern day story with their grandchildren.  All three show practical examples of what that character trait looks like in real life.  At the end of each section is a question/answer, and practical projects for you and your child to complete.

The character traits addressed in this book are:

1.  Attentiveness

2.  Availability

3.  Boldness

4.  Compassion

5.  Courage

6.  Decisiveness

7.  Endurance

8.  Flexibility

9.  Generosity

10.  Joyfulness

11.  Orderliness

12.  Thoroughness

You could use this book in multiple ways.  One way is what we did:  just start at the beginning and work your way through it.  You could do one trait per week or complete one a month and have a new one for every month.  You could also start with the one you feel your child struggles with the most and work your way out from there.

There are also downloadable coloring sheets with each section that your child can complete while you are reading to them.  This helps keep them attentive while listening!

I have been very pleased with this book and my plan is to complete one in-depth per month now.  (we went through it more quickly for my review).  The kids enjoyed the stories a great deal and Jake would often ask me to keep reading after we had finished our story!  I think they are also making an impact (which is the goal after all!).  This is something that must be done continuously and not just a one time and you’re done.  I’m still developing my character too!

This is my first time using Character Concepts but I can guarantee I will be using more of their resources.  They have loads of products just for promoting Godly character in your kids and after all that should be one of our main goals as Christian parents!  I hope you’ll check them out.  I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

disclaimer:  I received this product free for my fair and honest review.  I did not receive any other compensation.  I only recommend products I love!
