I was able to review a new children’s devotional from Christian Focus called “Psalms for My Day: A Child’s Praise Devotional”. This is a hardback, coffee table style book that is beautifully colored and comes with an attached ribbon bookmark.

What does this devotional consist of?

This book is specifically designed for children and to make the Psalms real to them and applicable in their life. It is 86 pages long and contains lovely paintings, scriptures, prayers and uses Alec Motyer’s translation of the Psalms. It also has a child friendly life application.

Ok I’m going to be blunt here and say I’m extremely partial to the KJV of the Bible and its beautiful language. That being said there is much good to find about this book. It is reverent, gives a good solid message of God and his love and points children ultimately to Christ.

I used this as a read-a-loud for part of our morning Bible time. My children all liked looking at the pictures and listening to me read it to them. I love this prayer from the pages on Psalm 51:1-9 “Dear Lord Jesus, you died for sin and rose again from the dead. Please forgive my sins and help me live a life that is pleasing to you.”

This children’s devotional would make a wonderful gift for the children in your life. It would also make a fantastic baby shower gift! This is also great to use as a whole family devotion and your readers can take turns reading the sections from the book.

I will say it does have a few interesting choices of words. For example, it uses “bombastic”. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that used before in anything! However I want to reiterate that it seems very Biblically sound. If you prefer using the KJV you could always read the Scriptures in it and then read the story explanation and prayer!
