"Mother Culture" step into peace and serenity in your homeschool
Have you ever wanted to sit down with an older Godly woman and receive wise counsel? Do you feel like there is a definite lack of a mentor in your life? This is exactly how I felt. Then one day I was reading a collection of Charlotte Mason proponent articles and the one that caught my eye was all about what the author entitled “Mother Culture”. It was this beautiful idea that a mother can bring rest and peace to her own heart and family through engaging in these different things the author, Karen Andrealo, talks about. As soon as I read this article, I was hooked and looked up the Karen. When I found out she had a new book with the same title I contacted her and asked “would she please let me review it?” To my excitement she said “yes!”
When I started reading the book it was honestly like a hot cup of tea on a cold winter day! I just immediately felt cozy and peaceful. She pours her heart out in this book and becomes such a mentor to young, homeschooling moms. She gives you the tools to teach your children thoroughly with a Charlotte Mason style but this book is really all about creating an atmosphere of peace and love in your home that not only facilitates learning but makes lasting relationships and memories in your family.
This is my favorite homeschooling book I’ve ever read (and I’ve read quite a few!). This has so much encouraged me to deal with my attitude first and then look at my children’s. I want to be a mother filled with peace and joy, not a worried, nervous, agitated mom whose kids despise learning and being around me! I want to be a joyful mother of children! This book is all about that!
Karen gives practical advice for making a delightful home culture such as engaging in activities that relax and rejuvenate you, expressing your creativity and challenges you to never stop learning along with your children.
I’m not I can explain why, but this book also has been a tremendous blessing to my spiritual life as she is a constant encourager of implanting God’s Word in your own heart as well as your children’s. It has given me tools to become a more Godly mother and wife and has really filled a void in my life.
I loved her book so much I immediately bought “A Charlotte Mason Companion” and have been delighting in reading it also! One thing I can say with complete certainty is that “Mother Culture” is a book I will reread over and over. In fact, I plan on just starting it over right after I finish it so I can soak up more truth each time I read it.
Not only is Karen an excellent writer but her openness and honesty are a breath of life to a struggling, tired, homeschooling mama. I cannot think of a better book that you could get for yourself or a friend. Its something I will treasure (and selfishly perhaps) this is one book I’m not sure I can bare to loan out!
A little background:
Karen is a homeschooling mama to 3 children. She was homeschooling before it became popular or common and had to learn many things completely on her own. She and her husband are also the couple responsible for bringing the original Charlotte Mason books to America and getting them republished! (She’s my new favorite author). She has written several books and is such a delight and encouragement to read! Go check her out; you will love her!
disclaimer: I received this book free for my fair and honest review! I was not required to make a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way!
