Is Homeschooling Hard?

Jenny/ February 2, 2018/ Thrifty Homeschool Mama Tips & Tricks

Someone asked me the other day, “Isn’t it hard to homeschool?”  I answered this way, “yes, it can be difficult to juggle a 7 year old, 4 year old & 1 year old at the same time.  But I’m used to that from being a stay-at-home mom anyway, its just an extension.”  See every good parent has to do that anyway, even if you work away from home all day.  When you come home you have to juggle homework, sibling quarrels, supper ect…

I would contend that even though mine is all day, it might just be a little easier.  Notice I said “easier, not easy”.  No good parent has an “easy” job.  But I don’t have to get my kids up super early to ride a school-bus for over an hour.  Seriously, they pick the kids up by us at 6:30 AM!  And they get dropped off at 4:30 PM!  10 hours away from home!  That is not for me or our family.  But honestly, even if the school was 5 minutes away I still wouldn’t send mine there.  I love teaching our kids (even when its really difficult) and I love being the one who gets to see all their firsts.  I get their first steps, first words, first stumbling reading.  I get it!

I don’t have to come home, try to get supper & do hours of homework with them.  Yes, I do their schoolwork with them, but its first thing in the morning when they are most ready to work.  I get to pick out things for them to learn that specifically appeal to their interests!  How awesome is that?

I get to encourage them, pray with them and guide them in the Lord’s way and ultimately that is why we chose to homeschool.  Not because of the school, the bus-ride, the interests, the academics or even the time.  Its because we wanted to teach them diligently when they rise up in the morning, when they go throug their day, when they go to sleep at night.  We wanted to be their main influence for Christ, all day long.

So yes, homeschooling can be hard, but its a tremendous blessing to us!  Its well worth any perceived or real hardship involved and I’m so grateful I get to do it!
