Channie’s Dry-Erase Handwriting Flashcards

Jenny/ October 29, 2019/ Homeschool Reviews

Jake has always had a difficult time making his letters appropriately.  We have tried many things and he has improved but when I was given the chance to review Channie’s Visual Handwriting & Math workbooks and the Channie’s Dry Erase Flashcard For Alphabet & Number and Channie’s Dry Erase Flashcard for Sight Words I was really hopeful that the handwriting flashcards would help him!

What we received:

1. Dry erase handwriting flashcards for alphabet & numbers.  These are exactly what they sound like, capital and lowercase letter flashcards & numbers from 0-9.

2.  Dry erase handwriting flashcards for sight words. There were 100 sight words in this package!

3.  I want to also note that these are very sturdy and stood up to use by my 2 year old who is not gentle!

How we used our handwriting flashcards:

  • All 3 of my older kids actually used these!  My 8 year old son practices on the sight words. They did double duty because not only did he practice his handwriting but he practiced his sight words!  Yeah!  I love multitasking!!

  • My middle 2 worked mostly on the alphabet and numbers. This was perfect for them because that’s what they are currently learning!

  • All 3 actually really liked these cards. They are very manageable and it doesn’t feel overwhelming to them to complete 4-6 cards a day, yet by doing so, they are getting ALOT of practice in!

My thoughts on these handwriting flashcards:

Alot of products are quite honestly fluff, but these handwriting flashcards are definitely not!  They helped Jake soooooo much it was pretty amazing!  It was the visual thing. He could see exactly where each part of the letter should be placed and his handwriting with these cards looked like a totally different kids!

They work so well especially for kids who are visually oriented. Why do they work?  Its because the child has an exact “box” and color coded spots on the box to put each part of the letter.  They no longer have to guess as to the appropriate size of each one.

This really helps to build the confidence because instead of constant correction in their handwriting they can actually see what they have done at a glance.  This was a huge benefit to Jake as he easily becomes discouraged with his handwriting because he does struggle with it so much.

These helped Jake so much that he asked me to color code his notebook pages for him to write his daily copy-work into. It was a pain to do that by hand but the difference it made was pretty incredible!  And then I realized they actually have a handwriting pad just for this!  Head slap here.  I’m going to be ordering that asap!

Updates:  I ordered the handwriting pad & oh my gosh, the difference it has made has been incredible!  His handwriting on the pad is every bit as good as mine 🙂  And it has encouraged him so much that HE CAN do it!

Also, my younger 2 kids have been using the handwriting flashcards about every day.  My 3 year old informs me that she is doing her work!  They love these & they hold up really well to the rigors of a 6 year old & 3 year old.

If your child is struggling to get their letter sized appropriately you really should try these out!  They may make all the difference in the world for them!  Learning should NOT have to be a struggle.  Just because conventional “wisdom” tells us “no pain, no gain”, that’s not necessarily true.  Sometimes the struggle is because they can’t gauge things appropriately with their eyes.  It doesn’t mean they are lazy or simply not trying hard enough.  Give them special tools and watch them blossom!
